Home Wind Turbine

Did anyone see London Tonight on ITV last night? It included a report on some guy erecting a small wind turbine on his house as a green alternative energy source. Does anyone know anything about this technology and where it can be bought from and the typical price including installation?

The Centre for Alternative Technology (in Wales) sell them. They have a website and mail order service. They also have all sort of other info for green living. :-)0

It is possible to regenerate back to the mains and effectively cut your electricity bill. To do this you need to generate at a rate of 50hz and also syncronise with the incoming supply, its a bit complicated to do and not something that just anyone can do.
Easiest thing to do is to use whe winds energy to drive a dynamo, bit like an alternator on a car and charge up some batteries. These can then be used for powering lights in a garden or garage for example, and even to run laptops and other low voltage stuff.0 -
better option if you are lucky enough to have water running through you land is a water wheel Water flows continually and low rpm means little noise or vibration. started building one a few years back but the wife took the house and never finnished it (hopefully she`ll try n finnish it herself and drown or electricute herself0

If you want to be really serious about wind power put one of these in your back garden.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :T Nice one Ogspeed.
This is interesting.
I am at the mo designing my house and as well as methods of water collection to use for waste, (flushing toilets Etc) as well as recycling bath/shower water for the same purpose + garden, I was thinking about a generator for Elec, too.
I am in the position to be able to have the structure designed to amplify the wind power if necessary so I am thinking that this may be viable as oppposed to solar.
Wind noise would be one of my concerns as would cost/returns.
Anyone got any pointers?
The site is on a gradient but in green belt.

Or if you don't like the £10K price-tag, how about building your own:
