Hanging from Standby

Running a Dell on XP.
When I put it in standby, sometimes but not always, when I start it up again it "hangs" and although the mouse will still function nothing happens.
I cannot get it to restart and have to switch off at the mains and boot up from scratch.
Any ideas.

I might be a bit off track here, but bear with me. (I have just installed a new PSU and did a bit of googling to read up beforehand.)
From memory this sounds like you should check your power supply - particularly the 5vsb rail - from what I remember it powers up the standby. If not enough power the CPU won't boot. (Not the same as starting from scratch.)
My motherboard came with a prog which monitors voltages/fans and temps.
Just an idea.
If not the PSU come back and let us know and someone might be able to give further advice.Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery.

It could be as simple as the Microsoft solution or may need further investigation on the Dell link.0
