i am already with them on the online tarriff, ran a uswitch comparison this weekend and they came out on top for fixed tarriff's

if you are an existing customer you can switch product instantly online, which is what i have done.
  • They didn't come up at all in my searches for fixed rates

I switched to them on Friday afternoon using energyhelpline. They advised it would be 2-3 weeks for the paperwork to come through & then about 6 weeks for the change to happen - is this timescale about right?
  • Hi, can somebody clarify the standing charge please. Am currently with Scottish Power and about to change to an online package. The lady on the phone said I should have the standing charge because I live in the house all year, and that standing charge should only be used in holiday homes etc. However, I had a guy from Southern Electric come round and say that I shouldn't be paying a standing charge?!

Can anybody advise before I make a mistake!
    Many thanks

boo hoo i switched on Friday when it was £62

i switched from alantic which was/is a great deal but wanted the security of a cap for a year - with the £62 it's only cost me a few quid if the comparison sites have worked it out properly - but i'll lose my loyalty bonus of aprox £100 in November which is not so great
still think it's time to cap even if it costs a bit more - prices have started to go up and it won't stop there

    don't forget Quidco!

I'd always opt for No Standing Charge option.

To double check, I looked at the figures for Seeboard region for Fixed Price 2009 tariff. They work out the same whether one chooses Standing or No Standing charge if you use more than 1143kWh of gas per quarter and 225kWh of elec per quarter.

In summer, you may possibly use less than 1143kWh of gas in this quarter. In which case it is always best to be on No Standing Charge as you only pay for what you use.

Similarly unoccupied holiday homes should be on No Standing Charge tariff too, to save money

I switched on Friday as well when it was £62. The deal would cost me about £70ish more per year, so getting £62 back ain't bad. Shame I didn't wait one more day, but hindsight is a wonderful thing................
