Thanks so much for the explanations, and sorry to be late acknowledging. Evidently I completely misinterpreted earlier posts in the thread and the meter does show kWh, the same as the main house meter. Great... this makes it very easy, as you say. After some use of the lighting for a few hours some evenings, it's now showing about 7 so seems to be working as intended. Thanks again.

  • Quick question before i get a british gas engineer in-
(and forgive me if this is totally dumb and obvious question)

Should my electricity meter LED pulse when there is no load?

I've got my consumer unit turned off at the main switch and my meter is pulsing 6/7 pulses per minute (which i think equates to 10kWh usage per day)
As far as i can see the meter feeds the main switch- no other supply, unless the neighbour has tunnelled under the path and tapped in discreetly.
I read somewhere that with no-load conditions the LED should be permanently on but appreciate this may vary depending on the model.

I noticed my electric use doubled since sept and this is not coherent with my usage history over the last two years. concerned!
  • Mo54, you are correct.
This is directly from the manual of this specific meter, it is the only information on the subject of.the solid red light in the whole.manual...

Anti Creep Detection, Anti creep occurs if an average power of 12.5 watts (+-20%) or less is detected for a period of 4 minutes and 48 seconds. Activation of abti-creep is indicated by the red LED being continuously lit. This function is reset as soon as the average power over 4 minutes and 48 seconds exceeds 12.5 watts (+-20%); the LED then returns to pulsing as normal.

(the 'abti' typo was exactly as typed in the user manual, it obviously means 'anti'.)

What I believe this paragraph is saying is, if you aren't using much electric for 4minutes and 48 seconds, the solid (unblinking) blinding red light will come on until.you use more than 12.5 watts over 4.48.
    Hope this helps.

I had the same problem when i moved in my place, i thpught it meant that it was using loads of electric (when i wasn't) so i decided to download the pdf version of the user guide, which is readily available on the camax website, however, as a new user of mse forum, i'm not allowed to post links.
  • I didn't read all the other replies, but it appears as though someone has already posted the link further up this page.
