Different meter readings.
Options
Got back from holiday ( 2 weeks) to find a letter from my previous supplier with the final settlement cheque. It occurred to me I had not received a letter from new supplier eon asking for final readings. I rang to check it was all going ahead ok,they said it was,and I had been with them since 4th july.
They said I had had a meter reading taken from my house in July.
I said, could I just give my current reading to them now.(belt and braces and all that!)
I gave them my gas reading and it was a lot lower than the reading they had.
They have asked me to ring back at the end of the week with a new reading.
What is likely to happen,in these circumstances.

When you change suppliers, if the dont have an actual reading around the date you change they can use what is called the 'Old Suppliers Estimated Reading' which is what you old supplier estimates the reading would be on that date. If this type of reading was used it may have been higher than the actual reading on the date. If the difference is big enough then the supplier may then use a new reading and adjust the opening/closing read accordingly. Whatever happens the closing reading used on the final bill and the opening reading on your initial bill should never overlap (double billing).
