awwww... bless our children... and the time they spend in nursery/asleep!!! lol

I think having two little ones under three (I used that excuse a lot untill last week!) has taken away several million brain cells, because (apologies in advance) there is another thing I don't understand (mostly because I'm isolated and don't get out!).

Do children now start school during different terms... or is it the same as in 'my day', that we had to wait for September to roll around?

Because, Alexandra was born on 26th Sept and therefore misses the new school year by about 3 weeks (many tears I've shed over that!!), does she wait for another full year then?

Sorry for asking all these questions, but many thanks in advance for your kind advice.

Due to her birthday your daughter will go to full-time school Sep 07.It'll depend on how many intakes your LEA does if the full school year starts at the same time or if they do 2 or 3 intakes and feed the younger ones thru the following jan and easter (08).

Our LEA feeds all kids thru Sept following their 4th birthday. We start back the 2nd week in Sept so you can get an early Sept child who is already 5 starting on the same dayas a child who was only 4 at the end of Aug.

There are a lack of schools with nurseries in my area, and the nurseries work the same way. You are admitted the Sept after your 3rd birthday. If there are spaces then in Jan they will admit the eldest of the next school year till the nursery is full. For the past 2 years the school nursery has been full with that years intake so there has been no early entry to school nursery for the eldest of the following year. This year I think there are about 6 places, so they will be offered to the 6 eldest children of the school year sept02-aug03. If anyone refuses a place they will go to the next eldest and so on.

If you take an early entry place at a school nursery our LEA does not allow you to change to a different one in September unless you move house.

All our school nurseries offer 5 sessions either AM or PM. Not come across a school nursery offering all day around here.

As previously mentioned daughter qualifies from Easter but I'll not get her in school nursery as it'll be full. Instead I can take the funding to a private nursery or pre-school. I get funding for 2.5 hours per session and have to pay difference. If daughter goes all day I'll get 2.5 hours AM and 2.5 hours PM. I'll get 12.5 hours in total a week.
