Electricity Supply Connection

In 2005 we had a new home built that required a new electricity connection.

The cost of this connection was around £5.5k even though it came from an overhead pole less that 50m away. We were told that the high cost was due to the fact that we had to pay for the new transformer that had to be fitted to the pole.

A new house right next to us will be getting their connection from the same transformer but they are only being charged £1k!

Does anyone know if I would have any rights to try and get money back from the supply company under these curcumstances ?

Whilst it may have been the supplier who billed you for the connection back in 2005 it will be distribution company who undertook the work as they 'own' the wires up to the main fuse (before meter) in your property. You could approach them for a refund but the problem is thats what it cost at the time. The fact that your neighbour has benefitted is his gain and your loss, same would apply to things like mains gas. Not much help I'm afraid.
