zara baby suit prestuds fell off first use!! guidance please

Hi all

Am livid this morning and would like a bit of guidance before I vent my spleen at Zara. My mother in law picked up a couple of baby suits in the zara sale last week and I put on of them on my daughter to sleep in for the first time last night. This morning I go to change her nappy and 3 of the prestuds have come off - literally in my hand, my daughter is just at the stage of pulling at things and could have probably pulled them off herself them came off that easily and she could have choked on them - especially the eyelet bit which is spikey. Obviously I want to complain to them but not sure whether to ring first and speak to the manager or not, I live 10 miles away from the shop and it would cost me £6 on the train to get there and I don't need to go for anything else so am loathed just to chance turning up if they aren't going to do anything apart from a refund (they were only a £1 but thats not the point!). What do you think, should I threaten them with trading standards or watchdog or something and see If I can get some vouchers out of them?

I would ring the, explain what happened, see if they can send a postage paid label. If you are nice, but assertive they might see that selling an item for a baby that has detachable bits is not good practice. Personally,I wouldn't ask for vouchers, just see if they offer you anything.Whilst I agree I wouldn't be too happy, can a baby really choke on something that small?

Afriend of mine worked for M&S, and she would tell us tales of how rigourous the test were for popper on babygros and vests. They litterally had to try to rip them apart to see how strong they were. I personally would take this further to Trading standards. It isn't about the refund value, more about a childs safety.

I wouldnt go for trading standards just yet, give zara the chance to investigate first. They would probably be horrified to learn their product had done this.

Going to TS before the company very often starts negotiations on the wrong foot.
