pleasee help! will have no hair left soon
I have a new p.c custom built through mesh. within 24hrs of using it The sound dissapeared. an icon on the speakers reports no audio output. I have gone into device manager e.t.c it appears i have onboard sound card but my p.c can't find it (code 10)
I have been on other sites and followed some instructions downloading drivers and such . Mesh techie people got back to me with further instruction which I carried out to no avail.- I am awaiting further response from them , but in the meantime have any of you come across or managed to resolve a similar situation? I need music!
My sound card is realtek. I am on vista home basics.

Yep there's a problem with realtek and compatibility issues with vista sp1- i had the same problem the other week, googled it and many people have had this. Listed all sorts of long winded ways to cure it, but mine was sorted after 2 reboots, thank god!Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0

thanks I tried that and had some problems with a blue screen and windows
not shutting down properley, sent error reports but this vista doesn't seem
as helpful as xp, if thats the right phrase(!)
still awaiting a miracle fairy to visit whilst I sleep and wave her magic wand over my p.c - this is really doing my head in!:mad:when things go wrong, Don't go with them!0 -
I had this problem a few times, you need to ensure that you have installed all of the drivers that came with the mainboard. I would then try to download the latest realtek ac'97 sound drivers and try 'Update drivers' in Device manager. If not, I would recommend uninstalling all audio drivers and trying a clean install using the lastest drivers.0

I've got Vista SP1 and had problems when installing PowerDVD which were ultimately traced back to the audio devices.
So what I did was uninstall all the audio drivers AND the Realtek software, then rebooted and let Vista sort out the audio drivers.
Then I reinstalled Realtek and everything worked.
BUT - have you tried System Restore to a point before you lost the audio?0
