How many bags of rubbish do you put out? (MERGED)

I put out one black bag one week and then the following week, it is likely that it will be two bags. That is for 2 adults and 2 children. I recycle carboard, plastics (type 1&2), paper, bottles, tins and tetra. It is noticeable how much our rubbish has gone down since I've done the tetra as well as the other stuff. Cardboard and plastics go to the tip when the bags are full (luckily only about 2 miles away), paper etc go out every two weeks (collected) and I take the tetra to one of our supermarkets when I remember.0

1/2 a bin bag per week for two adults. Recycle everything we can - magazines to hospital, clothes and bric a brac to charity shop. I just wish we could recycle hard plastics and tetra's here - there are schemes for both locally, but I'm not going to drive 14 miles to take them. In our family of 3 we put 3 black bags in the wheelie bin every 2 weeks and we recycle everything else in the green weelie bin every other 2 weeks0

Right one week of recycling my food cans and glass jars and the once a week trip to the tip isn't too much effort, so hope to keep it up.
Next on the list will probably be cardboard I think, judging by what else has gone into the bin this week - does that include all cereal packets/food boxes as well as the brown packing boxes? - sorry I sound so dim
You might have to watch as our kerbside recycling take lightweight cardboard eg cereal boxes but not thick cardboard boxes. Yet it's the other way round at my workplace! Go figure?Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -
Four adults and two teens. I don't know how many bags we put out because I don't do it! But I do know that our recycling bin is usually full at the end of the two weeks whereas the normal rubbish bin isn't. They're both wheelie bins. There's a bottle bank across the road and that's a weekly trip but probably only a carrier bag full.
I've always been big on recycling. Last house, the council would take cardboard up to a certain size, this house, different council will take any that is in the wheelie bin but no more so we end up taking flattened boxes up to the tip and recycling them there.0 -

Thanks, we don't have any kerbside recycling collections because of living in a flat . So it all goes to the local "waste recycling site" - just that I've been very lazy and only just started doing the recycling so a bit confused as to what can be done

My output in non-recyclable is only about one supermarket carrier bag a week. I recycle and compost anything I can. I allow myself one carrier bag per shop (weekly) for my bin, otherwise I use bag-for-life type bags.
There is only me and the cat though!

Have you tried looking on your local council website under Environment, Waste, Recycling or whatever? Both where I used to live and where I live now had quite detailed advice on what can and can't be recycled and where.
Before kerbside collections, we used to recycle most of our stuff at Asda when we shopped. Lost count of the number of times I forgot, went to put shopping in boot ...0 -

Thanks, yes I have looked but the council website isn't that helpful it says things like "cardboard - must be flattened", "plastic bottles can be recycled" (no further info other than to rinse them, so I'm guessing it's any type of plastic
) etc. working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

Well, that's no help at all, is it! Our last council would only take plastic drinks bottles, milk bottles etc but not yogurt pots etc. Present one takes most plastic food containers. So, no, you can't assume any type of plastic without asking.0
