How long for retailer to charge credit card account?

About 3 weeks ago I made quite a large furniture purchase on my credit card. So far the transaction has not shown up on my account (I can see recent transactions online).
Is there a time limit by which the retailer has to process the transaction, or could they claim their money months (or even years later)?
I'm hoping they've forgotten about it - that would save me a lot of money!
Thanks

From what I believe as long as the transaction has been authorised by the card issuer then the money can be claimed quite a long time after the transaction0

as far as im aware its six months. if i were you just keep quiet about it! my mum had the same thing happen to her with barclaycard. she checked with the shop and they said barclaycard had paid them, but it just never appeared on her card! :j0

Shops slow to debit account0 -
I'm now not using the card as when this transaction does finally go through, it will take me close to my credit limit.
If retailers do have 6 years to claim funds, I can see it causing all sorts of problems with people going overdrawn or over credit limits. You would think with all the technology available these days they could get themselves more organised.0 -
retailers have generally 10 working days from the time that the transacyion was approved for them to process the money before it reverts back onto the card. if a transaction is not processed within these 10days you will get the money back. however, they are allowed to reprocess the transaction or try and claim the money back from you via your card issuer (that is if they notice they havent taken your money). just be careful!!0

Asda took 3 months to take off my home shopping bill!
When I phoned them about it ( Because I was concerned as I hadnt used it with them for awhile )
They advised they could take the money any time from the date of purchase till 6 months afterwards.
Luckily I had a clear balance at the time but it could potentially cause problems for other people that are teetering close to their limits.0 -

Have you actually received the piece of furniture or is it on order?
Some retailers will only charge you when the item is despatched.0
