Hi All!
Been looking at TV's & seen Toshiba 46XF355DB at 'bargain price' £799 it lots places. Attraction with this TV, is a 46'' screen in a 42'' models space, 'cos the picture frame design of the cabinet.
But being without a TV so long, never had flat panel before, wondered how you decided the size toi get? & if you wnet bigger, or smaller, when you swapped it in for a newer model.
& does the big screen = plasma best idea still work, or am I behind with the times, now?!!
Thanks in advance.

In terms of size, a lot depends on how big your room is and how far away from the screen your normal seating position is. There's some guidance on that here:

When I last changed I went smaller, because I wanted the screen to be less of a dominant feature in the room.0 -
We went for a 37" as it fitted perfectly into the alcove in the living room. Living in an old house we have very high ceilings but small rooms. The 37" looks perfect for us as we thought the 32" would be too small and the 42" too big.
We made a template out of old scrap bits of wood of the TV we liked and placed it in position to see how it would look. You could try the same.0 -
I got a 40" Sony Full HD back in April from John Lewis for £749. I went for this because it comes with a 5 year warranty. Just over a month after I got it a line appeared on the screen and it was replaced straight away and has been perfect everr since. I have Sky HD and a Toshiba HD-DVD player and the picture is fantastic.
By the way a week after I got it they put the price up to £849 but I think it's back done to £799 so still a bargain in my book.Always looking for a bargain and to help0 -
I got a large sheet of paper and drew out various screen sizes and stuck it on my old 32 " CRT TV, eventually decided on a 37" LCD as physically it was no larger (a tad Taller) than the existing set, and you can push them back further into a corner if you wish. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Did try a 50" Samsung, but it dominated the room so returned and bought a
32" Lcd telly for the living room,
Then a 102" drop down screen hidden by curtain pelmet when not in use, with a HD Projector on bookshelf for gaming, movies and sport.0 -
I have this one http://www.tec7.co.uk/Television/LCD/Philips+42PFL7662D+LCD+TV_42PFL7662D/793.aspx
purely because it has built in freeview & fitted in the alcove in my home. plus it was quite a reasonable price.Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."
