worcester boiler 28i or 30si + what clock?

Hi All,

I've got a three bed room semidetached house and need to replace the current backboiler heating system with a new Combi boiler. I've had a few quotes but still unsure on which bolier to get. Worcester 28i or the Worcester 30si. Now i've got one bathroom and have a second toilet downstairs . I plan to run the shower straight off the new boiler. so which one is the best for me (please recommend ) from looking on the web the price difference is only about £100.

Also what clock should I get to control the boiler, I was advised to get the mechanical clock but this in only a 24hr one. Looking at the worcester site the boiler has sarome extra keep wm function which can be controlled by the timer (i'm correct on saying this or have I miss understood) so i'm guessing the michanical one cannot control the times you may want the hot water to be served faster from this keep warm function.

One final question. My current heating system has a room thermostat (very old) do you need to keep this for the new boiler? I'm just confused as one plumber said it will go and the other said i still need it. from reading the worcester site again, if I keep it that room (hall way ) does not need a TVR on the radiator and when the temperature is reached it will just shut down the boiler, ie saving money and energy. so can some one please tell me what I need. suggestions on thermostat will also help.

All thank you for taking your time in reading this and any help you may give me.

Zapster

I can't help hugely, but I do have a Worcester combi boiler and it's given us quite a few problems. It's a 24i which admittedly is probably too underpowered for our 3 bedroom house. The main problem though is that the water pressure gauge keeps dropping for no apparent reason and almost everyday we have to use a key thing on the bottom of it to let more water into the system. We've had people round who have told us there isn't much that can be done, it's just what these boilers do.

I think you've been misinformed. Most likely cause of this is a small leak somewhere. I suspect whoever you had round just couldn't be bothered spending the time needed to track it down.

I have a WB which has only started to need topped up since it was moved and a new rad was fitted. Leak has at last been found.

OP.....bigger is better imo, but there are some good plumbers on here who will hopefully advise.
