Hello everyone, I would love to make doughnuts tonight if poss. I have searched and searched but can only find recipes that include cups like the one below.... anybody got any recipes in ounces or grammes or failing that ..... can anyone pls tell me what a 1/4 cup of butter is as the other ingredients I can work out :confused::confused::confused:

Specially for Squeaky who can't wait for tomorrow.

Milk 1 1/4 cups
Egg beaten 1 medium
Butter 1/4 cup
Sugar 1/4 cup
salt 1tsp
strong white flour 3 3/4 cups
dry yeast 1 1/2 tsp
setting Dough

measure ingredients into baking pan and secure in breadmaker. select dough setting and press start. When programme is finished, remove dough and roll to 1/2 inch thick.
cut into 2 1/2 inch rounds and use something to cut the holes in the middle. leave to rise for about 30 minutes until doubled in size.
Deep fry at 190o turning as they rise to the surface. Cook until brown on both sides. drain and dip in caster dugar. ( or caster sugar mixed with a bit of cinnamon. Sit back and wait for the compliments, or if like me eat them all first before anyone else gets home:D

This recipe is from the morphy richards bread book and the measures are for their cup sizes.

    Hi livalot,
Here is the receipe I use for doughnuts. They really are delicious!

    Doughnuts

    250 g plain flour
    Pinch of salt
    30g g sugar
    50 g margarine
    1 egg beaten
    100 ml lukewarm water
    15 g fresh yeast

You will need 7 cm and 3 cm pastry cutters. (Empty soup tin and screw-on wine bottle cap are the right size.)

    Take margarine from fridge.
Cream yeast in measuring jug with a good pinch of sugar, add 1/2 the lukewarm water and leave to stand until starting to bubble (about 20 minutes) then top up to 100 ml.
Sieve flour, salt and sugar in a bowl and rub in margarine.
Add yeast liquid and beaten egg and mix in with a knife.
Turn out on to a floured board and knead for 10 minutes.
Return dough to bowl, cover with film and leave to prove in a warm place for 3/4 to 1 hour until risen.
Turn out on to lightly floured surface and knead lightly.
Roll out 1 cm thick and cut out rings.
Lift carefully and prove on greased warm baking tray for 5 minutes.
Re-roll the trimmings and repeat until the dough is used up.
Heat up the oil in a deep fat fryer. The oil should not be too hot- just hot enough for a cube of bread to rise immediately and turn golden brown in 1 minute.
Lower doughnuts into the fat 2 at a time and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.
Drain well and toss in caster sugar.

    Hi livalot,

Obviously you have to drink the wine when you have used the cap. ;) Perhaps accompanied by a nice hot doughnut!

I get about 14 from my recipe at a cost of 2p each. :)

The following will make apoximatly 24 donuts

    400ml water
40g yeast (I'm not sure if that is dried or fresh mind so I only did 16g dried and it worked  so not sure)
    100g sugar
    650g flour
50ml olive oil (sunflour/veg oil etc will work just as well and I dont use quite that much either I'd say about half)

Put the water, yeast and sugar into a bowl and mix well.
In another bowl put the flour and olive oil into the bowl.
Pour the water mixture into the bowl with the four and oil in it.
Mix to make into a dough.
Nead the dough mix on a lightly floured surface.
Then leave the dough to rise for 1hr30min.
After rise take the dough nead it a little more (on a floured surface again) and then seporate the dough so you can make the shape of donut you would like. Remembering that the dough will rise do not to make them too fat.
Leave to rise once more for around 1h-1h30min.
Place however many donuts will fit into a frier (at about 160 degrees) for a few min until they are golden brown on that side and then turn to do the same with the other side.
If you want sugard donuts have a bowl with sugar in and dunk the donuts in while still warm to sugar them.
If you want to add a filling you can do this while the donut is still warm.

The recipe works out at around 6p per plain donut to so very money saving :T .

    Hope that helps you.

I believe that you can reuse the oil just like you can with chips. I reused the oil and it was fine at least. Can't imagine why you could not reuse it. Oil isn't that cheap after all and I know my parents, grandparents ect would just reuse it lol.
