This Is The Week...

Over the past few months or so i have read other people stories, questions and general concerns etc which has been very helpful - so i thought i would post up my BR week which kicks off tomorrow which may help or advise other people..
Ok, after knowing i need to file for bankruptcy since February but not having the funds to actually go through with it, it has been in the banck of my mind and i've tried not to think too much about it.. I have been off work long term through illness and in June my employer terminated my contract and paid up years of service and untaken leave so i was finally in a position to do the deed so to speak..
I was paid this money at the end of June and through most of July have been picking up items needed for my flat out of it - this is only my real area of concern when i am passed to the OR as i've pretty much spent it all...
I had an appointment with my advisor (Community Legal Advice) last Weds where we filled in the application forms and exempt fee forms - which have been sitting in my kitchen since then - lol..
So tomorrow is the day i head off to court to present the forms - my advisor has told me that i will then have to go back on Tues morning and wait to be told that i'm officially bankrupt - apparently unless there is a problem with my forms or the judge has any queries i was advised that i may not even see a judge which i found strange..
Even though this week has been looming for what seems like ages, as it stands today i'm not nervous or apprehensive - when i first knew i would have to go down this route i did feel a bit ashamed about it, but i think with time i've come to realise it's not 100% my fault i'm in this position - yes the debt is mine and until my ill health started i was just about managing to keep up to date with everything.. It was only when i started to have time off work and wasn't getting a full wage (half pay, SSP etc) that things became a problem and when i was told i would be off work for quite some time i think realisation set in that BR was really my only option..
I'm happy to post back updates on my progress and what happened etc if anyone is interested and if it will help others..
Regards
Mav..

What came first, the music or the misery? Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

Good luck from me too! Yes, do come back and share your story. I didn't see a judge and mine was done all in one day.

All the best for this week.
I have my bankruptcy hearing tomorrow and am really nervous and anxious about it but I just want it over with.
Let us know how you get on
Take care

Ashamed? Of course you're not! Only the seriously rich can kick back and never worry about the debts. So many people on here seem to have hit the wall after something happening that meant they couldn't work as much - be it illness or redundancy. All we're doing is trying to get on with our lives, which is almost always a lot easier after BR. Good luck this week. BL0

Good luck, I'm sure it'll all go fine.
I'm worried about when the OR looks into my bank account and sees that I've "paid" for some holiday flights. In reality, the other half went to the ATM and it ate her debit card and sods law in motion, it was the day that the flights were at a really good price. So she gave me the money (she saves under her pillow, I think the smell helps her sleep!), I put it into my account and we used my debit card to pay in full. Will I get told off?Bankrupt 28/07/08!0 -
I'd be very interested to see how it goes.
I'm yet to file. Can you let me know how things go with OR in relation to buying the household items? I've had a post about needing to buy a bed. Its deemed a 'neccessary' item so i hope it'll be ok when i get round to it.
Hmmm, keep us updated.
When you're in the waiting room, remember all of us thinking of you!

Ok, just back from handing in all the forms so thought i'd post up a reply..
Got to court at about 11.15am, the clerk checked through all the forms and i was sworn in - as he was checking my exemption form for the £150 court fee i was asked if the supporting letter from the DWP confirming my IB was all i had (this was all my advisor had told me i required).. He told me he would require the past 3 months bank statements, so it was back home to get them and back to court. Could have done without that as it's sweltering here today - lol.
Once copied and the £345 fee paid i was told to return tomorrow at 9.30am, the clerk will check i'm there and then take the forms to the judge - not sure how long this process will take but i guess i'll be waiting around for a while..
Thanks for everyones comments, i think because of reading other people's experiences and the comments they recieved over the past 4-5 months it's made the process easier for me and why i don't feel nervous or apprehensive, saying that though i didn't sleep too well last night, i'm blaming the heat - lol, and i didn't feel too well this morning to which i'm blaming the chinese takeaway i had last night !!!!..
homeschooler - I hope all went well with your hearing today, let me know what happened so i can prepare for what's instore for me tomorrow..
blueopal5577 - When i told my advisor i was getting severance pay and that i needed items for my flat, they just told me to keep the receipts and not go over the top.. I would definately say a bed is an essential item and you should be ok, unless you buy a state of the art £2000 one - lol..
My most expensive item was a fridge-freezer @ £250, my main concern today is that i totaled up my receipts last night and i have about £800 un-accounted for which was used for day to day living and for things bought that i didn't get a receipt for, hopefully this won't cause too much of a problem..What came first, the music or the misery? Good luck Maverick, I'd say you're already half way there!
