If, like many cruises, the bill at the end is in us $, you need a nationwide, post office or abbey zero card, make sure they actually charge the card in us$ though.
If they bill in £:-
If you are not going to pay the bill straight away, then go for a card with a long 0% deal on purchases, see martin's article for more.
Otherwise, you could try for a cashback card, but you might not get one if you have limited credit history. Again, see martin's article.0 -
Depends when your holiday is. You may be cutting things too fine.
The time taken to process a credit card application varies between card companies. The best deals are often heavily advertised and lenders are sometimes flooded with applications. With luck, your card will arrive within 2 weeks, but better safe than sorry.
That said, if this would be your first credit card, you have a limited credit history, so from the lender's perspective you're something of an unknown quantity. You probably need to be more concerned about actually getting a credit card, rather than trying to select the best card for your trip.
Obviously, you have a current account and presumably you're registered on the electoral roll at your current address. Your own bank may be the best place to start
