Rehoming a cat what do i need to get???

I have offered to rehome a cat from my local freecycle on tuesday.:j

I have had cats before and theres always been a hole in the family and hamsters dont fill the quota. My last cat was a male pure white shorthaired, born to a ferral mother. He was dippy to be honest, but since him i havent had a cat in almost 3 years.

I know i need litter, litter tray food bowl bed scratch post collar and disc (though i know not to allow her out for so long after i get her) i cant think of anything else my minds gone blank.
I have looked into insurance but cant decide on the best one as yet.

Any tips and hints would be greatly appreciated

Probably a checkup at the vet might be a good idea so you know that they are basically well. A nice warm blankie and a peaceful place of their own as well because it will be strange at first and they might want to settle in at their own pace.

Apart from this lots of love, food and warmth and they'll be OK

You're ever so lucky. We recently lost out last cat (used to have 3 and a dog) and we now are living in rented accomodation so can't have animals.

we have gone with petplan on insurance, dont touch e&l with a barge pole they have such bad reviews everywhere and we dealt with them first hand with our other dog and they are rubbish, apart from that lots of love and toys it can chase, we kept our in for around 6 weeks as advice by the rescue people oh and when you let her out do it when she is hungry and before she wanders too far call her back in for food a few days of this and she will get the idea to come back when hungry, ( a catflap) the pound shop had some cat toys that my cats absolutley love, the long sticks with the feathers at the end and a bell, they love it, microchipping and speying if she has not been done i know cats protection league help out with thisif its a a stray or anyone is on benefits. oh and micro chipping might be cheaper if oyu have it done at the same time as speying, oh my god how i ramble i must learn to stop lol

Brush/comb, travelling box (for those occasional trips to the vet). Nail clippers?
Chipping will be better than a collar TBH, if you do want her to have a collar check it has a quick release emchanism in case it gets caught on anything.
Got a name for her yet?

Shes already named Ruby shes having to be rehomed as her owners daughter is allergic. I'm quite excited tho you wouldnt think i was nearly 30 lol

Good luck with Ruby, keep her in for a while till she knows where she is.
Mine have had all sorts of expensive cat beds radiator beds etc etc & which one do they all want - yes the cardboard box....

Lol my old cat Ben used to love clean washing especially a dark wash straight out the tumble dryer not good as he was white and white hair on my black suit wasnt an ideal decoration lol.

flea collar and fleas shampoo make sure you scrub the cat clean as fleas are nasty and the cat will cry

Find out her current food and keep her on that for the first couple of weeks. Having something consistant should help settle her down.

Thanks for all your helpful advice.

Unfortunately Ruby has gone missing whilst being looked after by one of her owners friends :rolleyes: so i am abit gutted tbh nevermind tho i'm sure another cat will appreciate the home.
