Is my digital camera broken/faulty?

Options
I bought a Pentax Optio E50 from Asda about four weeks ago. It was fine when I got it and I used it to take loads of pictures on my hols. Downloaded the pix when I got back, all fine, put camera away in its box.

Got camera out to day to take pix of friend who'd entered her first dog show. Put new batteries in, took a photo and disaster struck!

When I took the picture, it looked fine on the display. When it appeared on the screen for a few seconds after it had been taken, it was virtually all white/overexposed. I can still see the photo I took very faintly. Have been through all the settings I can find on the camera with no success, tried resetting the camera settings, all to no avail. Also tried taking pictures indoors/outdoors with different lighting present, but all pix are coming out the same.

Does it sound like the camera is broken or faulty? It will still be under warranty I imagine, but will feel a bit of a muppet if I take it back to Asda and have overlooked something really simple! :o

Thanks in advance
Izzy

If it is faulty it is still under warranty as youve only had it 4 weeks,

does it give any recommended settings in the manual,

If you're sure that it is in fully automatic mode, with no "backlight", "night scene" or similar compensation selected, it sounds faulty.

Have you tried removing the memory card to see what the photos look like on your PC?

Good point! I've just tried this after reading your post and they look the same as they did on the screen after being taken - pretty much all white and overexposed.

Off to try and find my manual now to re-check anything I might have missed.

Take it back in anyway, explain whats happened, it may be something you've overlooked and another pair of hands/eyes may find the problem, and if they can't and it's faulty then they should replace it.

If they're like our store they would probably go through the camera when you took it back anyway to check the fault, using a different card and batteries too, to find out exactly where the fault is
