Hi all,
Would really appreciate some help with setting up a home wireless network.
At present I just have the one pc in the house which connects to the internet through an NTL Broadband Modem.
I am in the process of buying another pc and possibly a laptop as well and at the very least would like to be able to connect to the internet on each of them. Would also be interested in being able to play networked games on the computers and being able to access music etc from the main pc via the laptop.
Am absolutely clueless as to what I would need to do this, cost is also a concern so I guess my main concern would be getting internet on all 3 with being able to share files and play networked games a bonus. Any ideas on what I would need to buy and how much it would cost me would be great.
Many thanks in advance, Tony

If your cable modem has an ethernet port (some only have usb) then you will only need to buy a wireless router, the cable versions of these tend to be cheaper as they don't need to build in the modem.
Netgear are my favourite but i'm sure most of the top brands are fairly good.click here to achieve nothing!0 -

It does - so I would only need the router? Would that allow me to share files between the computers? Thanks0 -
Is there a specific Netgar Router that is recommended for use with NTL Broadband?0

Any of the routers here are suitable. Take your pick. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

Would all computers also need to have wireless cards installed in order to use the wireless connection? Many thanks0

New PC's and laptops have network ports but NIC's can also be found on that website if required. New laptops will have 802.11 WiFi built-in so that is another way to connect to the router. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -

How would I tell if my new pc had a network port? If it did I assume it would work as is and would need nothing else to connect?
If no network port then can I put any Network Interface Card in it?0 -
As well as this would all pc's laptops need to have wireless cards?0
