One of my properties I rent out, the garden has not been tended to. I put a lot of effort into the garden to make it more homely for the tenants and left as part of the property all the tools to look after it.
So although it annoys me, I leave them to their peaceful rights as tenants.
I know when they move on it will take me a couple of days to correct and maybe I'll insert a clause saying they have to maintain for future tenants
It seems to be a close call as to whether as a tenant, they would be happy for the LL to pop round once a week to tend to the garden or enjoy their peaceful rights of privacy
Speaking as a tenant, obviously I'd rather it was an anonymous gardener than my landlord prying, coming to fix the garden. But we've previously had gardeners mowing our lawn, usually during the week whilst kids/OH out, and found it extremely convenient. Don't think any reasonable tenant would object to someone doing the hard work for them.
We had a bit of a to-do with our landlord over the drive. She wanted to put weedkiller on it, which we forbade, on health grounds, due to small children and the safety angle. Eventually, she sent her 'little man' (her male au pair who does odd jobs for them, usually some poor sodding Albanian etc) - to burn them off instead. Now she just resorts to nagging us instead. :rolleyes:0 -
So why don't you employ a gardener to do your garden, if you hate having to mow the lawn and weed the drive so much?
At least it would stop the nagging0 -

At last you have shown your true self, not a very nice young woman at all.
Two faced is one of the worst traits a woman could have.
You call BTL's parasites and you hate your LL's guts but you cant stand on your own two feet and have to go cap in hand to those you most hate.
It is no good to have all this eating away in you, why dont you channel yourself into something that will fill your day and make some money to get you into the position that you so crave.
I now understand why you are so jealous of OO's , BTL's and LL's, why not stop all this hate and ask them to help you achieve what they already have done, you might actually learn something along the way.0 -
Rather than capping house prices, or restricting people to number of bedrooms required as the origonal poster suggested, i think it would be much better if BY LAW:
* No more than 3x income single applicant
* 2 x salary couple
* Minimum 10% deposit
House prices would probably never boom and bust again, but instead, increase/decrease no more than the average wage in an area. If you already own a property and wish to buy a second, minimum 50% deposit. This way, people can only buy what they can AFFORD!
I would also scrap right to buy, as council are desperatly short of housing stock, as people in council homes are generally on long term (lifetime) tenancy agreements, so why would they need to buy? If they can afford to buy they should be looking of moving out of council homes into open market property, to allow those in greater need in.0 -
Lots of useful stuff
Hi Carole. One small word of advice. I suspect that BTLNEWbie is not what he claims to be. The clues are many, if you can really be bothered with this vile unpleasant person. If he / she is so successful why do they visit the Grabbit forums looking for bargains? Why spend so long on here pretending that they have a 'BTLempire'? Do they not have a life? Why use multiple aliases?
It's usually the case that those who talk the loudest cannot actually 'walk the walk', nor much else. They are bitter, lonely ,twisted, jealous, emotionally !!!!!! people - who if it weren't for the overwhelming nastiness might be able to elicit some sympathy.
I suggest to you (hope I'm not talking out of turn as a newbie and a fairly agressive annoying brat myself), that you view this loser in a slightly different light. You may find he / she becomes slightly less annoying to you.0 -
Cost. Durr......0

I do channel myself into something (well, someones) I love. My family. Don't make me any money - somewhat the opposite! - but amazingly (and far beyond your comprehension, I'm sure) there ARE things in life which have no price because they are beyond price. Maybe it's you who has something to learn?
Fail to see how paying rent means I 'can't stand on my own two feet'. On the contrary, I'm paying my way. It's lazy parasites like you who have to rely on other people to do productive work.
I'm in no way jealous of BTL landlords. I could have been one myself, had I had the slightest inclination. Whilst my part of the country is quite expensive, I could easily have been a landlord in a cheaper area, had I felt so inclined (rather than morally revulsed). I didn't and never will.
As you are so keen to help me reach my goal, I will accept your kind offer of generosity. Large cash donations to carolt's deposit fund always welcome. I assume you were sincere when you made that offer? Very kind. About 50 grand and I might even decide you were a nice guy after all.0 -

Excellent post, lost in amongst the bickering.
Far too sensible to actually happen...or is it?
I have a feeling, that whether the over-indebted like it or not, something pretty similar is coming our way soon, courtesy of the credit crunch.
Cheers, credit crunch.

OT, I know, but am I the only one who every time I see/type/hear the phrase credit crunch, can't help thinking of a chocolate bar?
Surely not.0 -
They are not really affordable now, and even if they are more affordable in Scotland
So you don't know, but speak of cities like Glasgow will not be able not being able to cope with the impending recession. I don't understand why you chose Glasgow and not London which was also referenced in the post.
Well here's a link showing Scotland has the lowest Mortgage to Earning ratio of 4.38
http://www.hbosplc.com/economy/includes/25_07_08Affordability.xls
The UK average is 5.31 and the South East has the highest with 6.50
Maybe you could look at Grater London affordability and compare London / Glasgow and advise why you think Glasgow will be able to cope less than Londonlet us see how prices will be affected as the economy sheds millions of jobs, with fewer opportunities for the unemployed to get back in to paid employment.
It is not just Carol Voderman who is going to be asked to take 90% paycut to remain in that tv company's employ. Paycuts, less hours, mass redundancies... - that is how I see the future of the next 6 years.
You seem to quote a possible recession and unemployment with so much glee. Strange, viewpoint in order to see house prices tumble.:wall:
What we've got here is....... failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach.
