What car are you trying to insure?
How about lowering your cover to 3rd party only?
Fitting an approved alarm system?
Taking an advanced driving course?
Opting for limited mileage insurance?I hate migraines.0 -
Thats already a very cheap quote for a 17 year old. Are you already a named driver on it?0

I have to recommend Quinn Direct, they have always come out tops for my children. Had a quote for a P Reg Corsa 1.2 for my 17 yr old daughter - £440 3rd party fire and theft. Also have you passed your test yet. If you have the insurance will be higher than if you insure a car before you pass as the insurance companies class you more of a risk. When I insured my sons car which incidently was £1,090 (more for boys!!!!) they just said I had to let them know when he had passed his test which I did but they did not increase his premium. Second year insurance was approx £550 so it does reduce. The other thing is to add your parents as named drivers - as long as they don't have any points etc, (NOT AS MAIN DRIVERS THOUGH, THAT HAS TO BE YOU) again it reduces your premium. Why I don't know but it did.0

So you add your parents to the insurance policy and this reduces what you have to pay?????Help me to help you :santa2:0

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all your quick replies! THis is just going to be a jumble of answers to everyone! Its quinn direct that has come out cheapest from every comparison site i've done and several different cars...so thanks anyway! I have looked at insuring several different cars...Corsa's...aroound 04 plates have come out at about £880 and the quote for £1050 is for a toyota corolla 02/03 plates. I added my mum to my policy and it comes out the same so i am going to do that anyway as it is at no extra cost! I am going to insure as a learner on insurance as it has come out about £500 cheaper and as someone just mentioned i am hoping its not going to go up when i tell them i have passed! I only really want to insure fully comp as im spending about 4k on a car so dont really want to risk anything! I looked in to doing pass plus but that doesn't cut my premium at all and my driving instructor does a similar service for free, so im not going to pay extra for that. How much does it cost to fit extra alarms on my car?? would i be saving a lot!
Thank-you all for your hints and tips if anyone has any more suggestions please add them in its much appreciated!0 -
It IS likely to go up when you pass your test, i'm afraid.
And the reason adding parents can reduce the premium is because it raises the average ages of the drivers
1 driver of 17 is higher risk than 2 drivers with average ages of (say) 25

If you have decided you want one of a few cars, then how about looking at their respective insurance groups and choosing one of the lower groups of cars? My first years insurance was £1600, you are a woman though so it will be a lot cheaper. Fitting a Cat1 alarm will cost you a few hundred pounds, and will only knock a little bit off your premium, so if you intend to keep the car for a few years, its worth getting one fitted or buying a car with one on already. I got a policy with just myself on, as i think that putting drivers on the policy that wont ever drive the car isnt the right thing to do.0

Hey everyone was just looking for some quick responses....this probably sounds stupid so please excuse me if it does!
I've just been doing quotes on money supermarket for my potential new car, As i said earlier toyota corrolla 03 plate 1.6 automatic, a quote with "quote line direct just come up as £183.75 (im pretty sure its not ment to and as i click to the buy it now button there site is not working is there any way i could try and push my luck to get this insurance for this price...I probably dont have a hope in hell but just checking don't want to miss my chance. I have checked all the info on the first page where you go to enter there site and it doesnt say anything about they need further details or the premium could change etc etc..........HELP please guys!!
Thanks Jess0 -
you have next to no hope of them honouring that price - it is clearly a mistake.0
