I think there is a common theme here!
I recieved a bill in June this year saying I owed them £237 (i pay monthly DD) and that the monthly amount was going up to £33 (from £4 - yep £4 - so i wasn't suprised that I owed them money) However it did say this was an estimate.
On the 15th sept though, they did a meter reading and found that instead of owing them the £237, I actually only owed £57!! - great I thought - reduce the monthly amount again - nice one!
two days later - a letter to state that in order to pay off my debt (over a period of nine months) and to pay for my "increased usage", my monthly DD would rise to £73 a month!!! - £73 a month I couldn't believe it!
anyway - straight on the phone, asked why it was so much to pay off a debt of just £57 - "well sir, this is also for your regular usage - not just the debt" - but to pay £57 off over nine months, as the letter stated, meant they wanted to charge me £67 a month for gas (i'd paid just £4 a month for the past two years) - explained it was a new house, 3-bed semi, efficient boiler, both people working etc - couldn't get through.
eventually I said - look how much do I owe - I'll pay it now with my debit card. - paid the £57 and said ok - how much do I owe now? "£0 sir" - ok so how much is my monthly amount now - calculate it on my usage.....
....." shall I make it £73 a month sir?"
no!!
The didn';t have a clue what it should be - i set it back to £33 a month, but I have now started the process of switching suppliers.
I am not impressed by their so called "customer service!"
good luck with yours though0
