Public transport to Liverpool Football club?

Hi,

We are using Manchester as a base. One of our day outings will be going to Liverpool on Sun 10 Aug 2008 . One of the planned actvities in Liverpool is to do a Liverpool FC tour.

Plan is to take the train from Manchester to Liverpool Lime Street station.

Does anyone know which is the easiest and cheapest public transport to get to Liverpool FC? There will probably be 2/3 adults and 1 child.

Thanks in advance.

Taxi should not be more than £10 or so each way.

Of course if you want to see the gleaming trophies then you need to stay in Manchester!

On a slightly more serious note I visited Liverpool for a couple of days this week and got my lad the new United away kit at JJB's. The whole thing cost £28 (shirt, socks and shorts).
I noticed that the price in Manchester for the same thing was £34!
So if you want a new kit in Liverpool colours it might pay you to have a look around the Manchester shops!

    Hi m8

You have two options - You can get the bus to Anfield no 26 from Paradise Street Bus Interchange - next to the Liverpool One shopping complex about 10 mins walk. Bus costs £1.50 per adult and 75p per child. More info at http://www.merseytravel.gov.uk

You could also get a cab to Anfield - it would cost approx £7 from Lime Street

    Hope you enjoy your day

going on the basis that both manchester uniteds and liverpools kits would be cheaper buying away from their fan base ......i would advise not going to sports shops in cornwall , dover , the isle of wight and milton keynes

just a thought, depending on how old the child is of course, when i go to anfield, i usually walk from lime street to anfield, it is only about a half hours walk, well maybe just slightly longer, but it is basically just down one main road, which is straight in front of lime street station as you walk out, and turn right at some traffic lights when you get to stanley park, it is signposted pretty well, hth Dave

    Hi,

    Thanks for all the replies.

Spaceman5, Jonesmufcforever - As mentioned in another thread some time back, we will be going to the Old Trafford tour (for little one) and Anfield (for other half). I'm sure we will get some arguments as to who has more trophies! Also, the little one won a complete MU kit in his school raffle, so we won't be buying him any in Liverpool JJB.

Looks like taxi might be the way to go. Don't think walking is an option. It might be a bit too tiring for the little one (he's 7); as we plan to see other touristic bits of Liverpool and that will involve walking.

One other thing, we might want to do a River Mersey cruise. Is there a combined card that we can buy to allow for travel on the buses and river?

    Cheers.

Hi, I don't think you can buy a combined river/ bus ticket but if you are going on the ferry your 7 year old might like to visit spaceport on the Wirral which has a great doctor who exhibition at the monent, and you can buy a combined ticket for that. You might also like this idea....

You can use Saveaway tickets on train, bus and ferry trips but they are for off-peak times, have a look here http://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/information_tickets_saveaway.html and here http://www.merseytravel.gov.uk/articleimages/Saveaway%202008a.pdf

Floyd - Thanks for the info. Will be buying the Saveaway tickets. As we plan to be in Liverpool on a Sunday, we can use it all day at any time :T according to the info.
