We bought a mains testing screwdriver and found that it was the DVD player that was the source of the trouble! The screwdriver lit up whenever it was passed over the casing. We also bought one of those plugs that test your wiring and that was all fine.
So, off to take DVD player back to Argos tomorrow. Have lost receipt unfortunately but at least we hope the manufacturer will be told about the fault.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member No.11.
