I am going to the USA on Wednesday and am told that I should buy an iPod there as they are cheaper.
I just about know what an iPod is and think I would like one.
What should I be looking for? Any tips?

oooh oooh, get an ipod nano - I went to look at one in a shop t'other day and they are tinier than i thought!!!
But TBH, if you don't particularly want one, there's not much point in buying one - when i was there, they were only about £30 cheaper than over here.....0 -
PS - you can see the range of ipods @ the apple online shop:
www.apple.com/uk they'll have the UK prices, and if you go to the US shop, it'll give you an idea of the US prices (www.apple.com) I'd put the prices here, but stoopid surfguard at work won't let me onto apple.com!0 -
I bought a 30GB photo one when I was in New York and I totally love mine - the best thing about it is if you buy a speaker to plug the ipod into - you can listen to your whole music collection without ever having to get the cd again -its great!
The photo one is a bit pointless to be honest (in my opinion!) as all you can do is store photos on it. It is useful in that you can have the album artwork displayed when you are selecting music... There is a new Ipod out that also plays music videos as well as the song. Not seen one myself and don't know how you would download the video and how pricey this may be.
Also, bear in mind that if you buy an Ipod you can't use napster to download music - you have to use the itunes website and pay either per song (which works out damned expensive if you think about it) or per album, which admittedly, is cheaper than shop albums but compared to the napster to go website (where you pay £14.99 per month for as much as you want) is quite expensive. So there you gooooo. Help this helps a little bit and doesn't sound too garbled!

Oooooo, forgot to say, I-pod nano's do look pretty cool, are tiny and definitely have enough memory on for the average person (as long as you aren't going to use it for loads of photos). BUt there has been all that stuff on the news about the screens breaking; apple replace them if they do break but if you buy yours from america then you might have a bit of a trip to get it returned to the store!
Enjoy your trip though!

Jakemuk - Yes - slightly misleading answer above.
You can rip any CD into iTunes on your PC and load it onto your iPod. You can also load any MP3s you have aquired.
The only restriction is that for legal downloads you are restricted to iTunes store.
(I don't actualy think Napster is good value - you do get a lot of choice whilst you keep up the subs - but you only rent the music, as soon as you stop paying £14.99 a month you lose your entire library whereas with iTunes and other stores once you've paid it's yours to keep for ever.)0 -
Lucy'
It really depends what you want it for.
If you want chick chic then go for the Nano. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/026-1525331-6841260
However, if you want to store a load of music and pics and a bit of video then go for the 30gb one (like this) http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000BACHXW/026-1525331-6841260
If you're not familiar with them then go to somewhere like Dixons to see the size etc. Incidentally it's a long way to travel to the states if you have trouble with it??I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!
I'm not losing my hair... I'm getting more head!!0 -
I've come across a website which I think is probably based in China : http://www.98cm.com/ which sells iPods really cheaply. I want to buy one each for my 3 daughters for Xmas but will only be able to buy the shuffle if I get them here. does anyone know anything about this website. My feeling is that it's dodgy.0
