Going back to uni, some questions :)

I would like to go back to uni, I already know which course and where to go. I had just missed the cut of date for applying via ucas, what do I do now?

Do I ring the college and apply like that? I already have my a level results from back then lol the person I spoke to at the open day said that they would accept someone with my alevel grades , so Im hoping that will be pretty straightforward.

I am atm a single mom on benefits, my daughter will be 2 in NOv and I think there will be childcare available for her.

What do I have to apply for with regards to student loans and such, I obv have to inform the benefit people that Im going to become a student, Sorry for the questions. TIA x

You can still apply through UCAS and go through Clearing I believe, but your course might not be available. It depends on its popularity and where you want to study it.

Otherwise, if your a mature student (over 25) then you might be able to apply directly. Some uni's bump their mature student numbers this way.

    Good luck

I believe you can still apply after the deadline, but they don't give your form as much consideration or something like that.
  • You can apply through Clearing and get a place like that (usually with grades below entry level), but they might not have your course. Basically they assume that people who have Conditionals will be going on the course, and when they don't meet the conditions they put all the available places on Clearing.

It's always worth phoning the institution direct. They may give you an indication of availability or they may accept you directly and ask you to do the UCAS form as a formality. In either case they might ask you to wait until Clearing but there's nothing to be lost by phoning now. I've done this twice as a mature student, with 20 years between! Good luck.

Definately ring up - when I started Uni in 2004 my course was accepting people even after the start of the course. Depends what you want to do and where of course (ie forget it if you were wanting to do medecine or dentistry! :-)

Remember Universities have to fill up their places to get the most income so they have an incentive to take people.

Benefits etc you'll have to tell them as you might not be eligible for some things as a student (eg Jobseekers Allowance)
