builder/electrician

Hi,
Are you or do you know of a good and reliable electrician and a builder in the north west- we have telephoned a couple of each but they either want a silly amount for three/four days work or dont get back at all!!!!
All we want is a sensible quote for a honest days work

Stupid question - do you have a dog? Go for (dog or dogless) walks/drives around your area, see who is getting work done, ask if they are happy and if so chat up the workman.. That way you end up with someone that is recommended and you may get to see their work before you hire them and not the one job they did well for a mate who is their reference person..

I found my Plumber, Block paving driveway person, double-glazing firm that way having moved 400 miles south and bought a wreck, I knew no-one around here.. My roofer took longer and advertised in a local area guide but he is brilliant and only does what is required - ie doesn't create extra work or charge silly money.. My electrician I found in the yellow pages and was the best of 3 quotes, I wish I had chosen a different one as he is a chancer but the electrics are pretty good.. My plasterer was a mate of the Block paving bloke and was also brilliant..

Also ask colleagues/mates/local shop who they recommend
