Changing from E.ON with Heatwise plan

Hi all,

Newbie here, am a bit confused with my meter situation, having 5 readings as these include some readings which relate to E.ON's Heatwise tariff.

I'm looking to switch to npower and would like to drop the Heatwise option so that my storage heaters just use the standard E7 overnight.

Based on my comparison between npower Sign Online 11 / 12 and E.ON Standard tariff using 6155 kwh units per annum, 60% of these as E7 saves around £113 per annum, not to mention the additional saving of not using storage heater and hot water electricity during the day.

Plus a cash back of £20 is available from TopCashBack if you register and sign with npower using TopCashBack.

Just wondered if anyone else has done the same thing and how their meter readings relate to switching to a supplier with just E7? Will the meter continue to feed the storage heaters / hot water during the day and thus still record usuage against the Heatwise readings? Will this mean that Day time Heatwise reading will be charged at Standard Daytime rate? Will Night time Heatwise be amalgamated with E7 units?

Look forward to hearing anyones feedback

I believe that Eon is the only company that supports the heatwise tariff. If you want to change supplier you would have to ask Eon to change your meter to an economy 7 meter. You will need to be aware that by doing this you will only get 7 hours of off peak use instead of the 10 you get now, so your home won`t be as warm.

If you wanted to switch to Npower on E7
Ibelieve you will need to have your meters changed to E7

this would involve the removal of one of your 2 supply meters / MPAN suply numbers to be de-energized

this would not be a straight forward process if itwere to be done at the point of switch over,

my sugestion -if your sure you want to switch to npower switch would be firstly switch to their equivalent resticted hours off peek tariff, thus keeping both your supplies, then if you wish to at a later date opt for E7,

However please doubble check that npower's prices will be beneficial to you before hand,

If I were you if you really didnt feel Heatwise benefits you simply ask EON to arange to put you on E7,

    hope this helps .....

yes actually i believe thinking about it only the host supplier offers these heatwise type tariffs,

    EG:
eon/powergen would offer them in the old EMEB, EASTERN,NORWEB ARES,

npower would offer them in MEB, NORTHERN, YORKSHIRE,

SCOTTISH AND SOUTHERN IN, South, SWEB, Scot Hydro host supply areas,

EDF IN LONDON,SWEB, SEEBOARD, within their host supply areas

SCOT' POWER AND MANWEB IN their host areas only

Due to the fact that you effectivelly have 2 MPAN
And 2 elec supply's 2 or more meters and up to 5 meter reading displays i think thats why the others dont want to throw a spanner in the works
  • I believe that this tariff is only available with E.On, and it very unlikely any of the other suppliers will touch it. If you are not using your heating in the daytime hours (afternoon and evening session), which a lot of people don't, you could have a single MPAN E7 meter installed but this may require some internal rewiring.

    Hi all,

    Thanks for all your replies.

I have just spoken to npower and it is possible to switch as their equivalent Heatwise is called Heat Plus which is their E10 tariff.

This does appear to work out a bit cheaper mainly due to the standing charge being less with npower. Plus as well as the one off cash back as detailed above, another £20 discount each year for paying by monthly direct debit.

I think this is the best option for me as a tenant as I don't want to have meters removed. This gives me the flexibility if I can get into the habbit of switching the water heating / storage heaters off before I go to work and then back on again in the evening. I think that would save around £50 per Qtr based on my last E.ON bill by not using the afternoon E10 electricity.

For comparison these are the figures, exc VAT.

    E.ON
    Standing Charges
    £34.94 Qtr
    (Day units charged at
    25.41p for the 1st 225 kwh units
    per Qtr, then at 9.88p.
    (25.41 - 9.88 = 15.53 x 225))

    Heatwise standing charge
    £7.08 Qtr
    (7.76p per day
    (365 / 4 = 91.25 x 7.76))

Day 9.88p (after the 1st 225 kwh units per Qtr)
    E7 4.39p
    Boost 11.04p
    Heatwise afternoon 4.92p
    Heatwise evening 4.92p

    npower
    Standing charge
    £22.22 Qtr

    Day 10.66p
    E7 4.34p
    Heat Plus Afternoon 4.77p
    Heat Plus Evening 4.77p
  • Hi all, Heatwise = E7 with E.On. I have not had an itemised bill in the 6 months I have lived here so have no figures to go on. Can anyone tell me what the timings are for the 5 different rates my meter records? I understand there are 1 day and 2 ninght rates with 3, 4, ,5 being top-up periods for immersion heating/ night storage heating during the afternoon and evening - outside the Economy seven period. If that is right, are these supply periods at the cheapest rate or is the Economy seven period the cheapest? With regard to water heating only. If I leave my immersion switched permanently on then it is on during both Economy seven and Heatwise boost periods. This produces far more water and it is at a hotter temperature than is neded. Question, is it better to sitch on for just the seven hours of E7 and off all other times or the reverse, if that gives me enough hot water? Lastly if and when I need to put the night storage on, would it cost least to switch on for E7 and off for Heatwise periods - if heating not needed in daytime? Any advice most greatfully received!
  • I can`t remember what the heatwise switching times are for sure but you get 5 at night sometime after midnight, 3 in the afternoon around 2pm ish and then 2 in the evenings which I think is around 7. If you ring Eon, try 0800 363 363, they will give you the correct times.

If you don`t need all that water then just either leave it on for the night time or for the afternoon and evenings. If you don`t need the boost for the storage heaters then you could turn them off when you leave the house for work then turn it back on before you go to bed so you get the night time boost.

I used to have storage heaters and I did like them. They take some getting used to and you also need to keep an eye on the weather so you know when to turn them up or turn them down.
