Hi
sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't search as my pc keeps freezing.
A while ago the cd writer drive died. Then the pc kept freezing. I thought it was resolved, but tonight it appears to be doing the same thing. If I look in system errors I'm getting
The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort1, is not ready for access yet.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
and
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CdRom0.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
their times are the same although the source for the first one is atapi and the second is cdrom
Please help, I'm going mad and it's taking for ever to get anything done tonight and I just don't know what's wrong
Many thanks
Murtle

You may need a firmware upgrade, do you know make and model of CDRom drive
could be the drive playing up, or a loose connection inside......
What OS are you using...0 -
Thank you for your response.
I dont know the make or model of the cdrom drive, but it's built into a compaq presario 5032uk? does that help??
The OS is XP

Mmm just try this Pop in the XP restore disc if you have one, then if it starts up
just click cancel, then do,, Start, Run, Type sfc /scannow when blue bar dissapears restart machine, do this with no other stuff running i.e Word, Internet

Try another CD drive - just a few screws and a couple of plugs to change - Any cd CD rw drive will do. You local computer shop will lend you a secondhand one if you ask nicely or sell it for £5 or so. If they do repairs they will be falling over good ones pulled for upgrades to DVD etcqui tacet consentire -

A "controller" error could be driver is corruped, drive is faulty, IDE lead problem, or even a motherboard/memory problem.
The only way to know would be to try another drive as suggested above with a new or another IDE lead that you know works.0
