Help! Halifax CC can't do BT to MBNA & Natwest???

I apologise in advance if this has been covered elsewhere - I've searched for ages but can't find the answer to my question.

I was offered 0% 12 months Balance Transfers & 0% 12 months purchases from Halifax so I took it - great deal.

However, i've just tried to transfer balances from my MBNA CC and Natwest CC to be told Halifax don't transfer balances from these institutions - just my luck...the only 2 CC's I want to transfer & they won't take them!! So it was a complete waste of time me getting this card!

Why is this? And what other institutions won't they transfer from?

There have been 'problems' with online BT requests from MBNA (although I'm not aware of the same issues with NatWest) to Halifax.

Telephone requests have no such problems, so ring them.

    Did ringing them work ?,

I have just tried to do a transfer from Halifax to Nat West online and it wont let me saying that they do not allow transfers to this financial institution. Have missed the call centre tonight so will ring tomorrow, hope this is not true or I have a wasted card and a urgent need for one to transfer my Nat west balance to.

Natwest BT's will be OK over the phone. The call centres are open 24/7. Give them a call on 0113 3809574 (taken from Saynoto0870.com)

    HTH.

Unfortunately I don't think you'll have any luck transferring between NatWest and Halifax as they are both owned by RBS. The same thing will happen soon I'm sure between Abbey and Alliance and Leicester now A&L has been taken over by Abbey's parent company Santander.

I don't think this is the case - Natwest is owned by RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland), however Halifax is part of the HBOS (Halifax Bank of Scotland) Group which is a completely different animal altogether.

Halifax are owned by Bank of Scotland, which is different from Royal Bank of Scotland (owners of NatWest).

Has the sale been concluded already then? I thought they'd just tabled an offer and were waiting for regulatory approval and subsequent acceptance by A&L's shareholders.

Also, I think you'll find A&L's cards are run by MBNA, not A&L themselves. ;)

True, but if Santander gets the go ahead, the bank could decide to run its credit cards in house, as with Abbey. Not that credit card customers stand to lose much, IMO, if this were to happen.

Re A&L yes it is subject to the usual OFT review but that's just a formality, and I have been informed by someone from A&L that they have considered taking cards back in house for a while, pre Santander. I expect this move will become a reality by the end of the year.

As for RBS and HBOS though, my mistake, but an easy one to make! Maybe the NatWest customer service agent did the same...
