More information may help indicate why.
What adhesive was it? What surface was the adhesive laid onto as you may have used the wrong adhesive for the job? How thickly was it spread? Did you follow the mixing instructions on the side of the packet exactly? What was the expiry date on the bag of adhesive? I would call the manufacturer as if you got a dodgy batch they may replace it free of charge.

But you haven't said what exactly is the surface your tiling onto... is it plain concrete or is there anything on it like black bitumen from removing old tiles? Different types of adhesives are suitable for different jobs.

I'd contact the manufacturer then. Homebase might refund you but would be nice to know what the problem is so you can avoid it again.
Not really impressed by evo-stik myself. as evo-stik pva always goes mouldy for me.

sounds like the adhesive was too thick and has not been able to dry out

better off using a dry mix flexable adhesive than tubbed stuff for floors

something like granfix superflex would be best
