New Website!

Options
Hi,
Im new to moneysavingexpert so bear with me!

I've just set up a website which offers proofreading to students. I've registered the site with google and when you type my site name into the google search engine it comes up as the first result.

However I'm not sure how to make my site appear in the search results when you type in specific key words such as 'proofreading.' I have put keys words at the meta tags?! on my site but I would like to know how to make my site number one with google if someone was to type in 'student proofreading.'

Thanks!

    Hi,
You'll struggle to get to number one for that phrase in google.com as there's nearly 1.5 million competing sites. However I think if you site is SEO friendly and you promote your site in the UK then you have a very good shot at getting first page and maybe number 1 slot on google for UK as you're competing against 12000 here.
I'd make sure your site clearing states your a student proofreader. Then I'd get a good domain that matches this. I'd get an autoresponder and squeeze page to capture visiters details via a special/free offer. Next I'd do a monthly online press release via pr web (choose the $19 option) and I'd write an article about your proofreading services and submit it to articledirectory.com once a month.
Hope that helps? Remember getting to number 1 on google is the holy grail of many companies and many spend fortunes to do so!

    Hi,
Thanks for your reply, I'll definately try out some of those tips. I realise getting even onto the first page of google is an very difficult so it looks like I have hard work ahead of me!
  • Add your website to free online directories, that can get you to page 1 as well.
If you have an ebay account you can sell your services for free too, that can also get you to page 1.

I would also recommend looking here

Putting up a sitemap helps get all of your pages listed and is standard for Google, MSN and Yahoo. I use this free site
    http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
    to produce the xml sitemap.

You can also try google's "pay per click" for a while..of course it costs , but you can set a daily budget of a few pounds, it all helps increase your exposure.

The lime green/ light grey does not work for me, the grey text is too light on the green and if I was slightly visually impared then it would be difficult to read properly.

Putting Adsense in the header and footer COULD BE taking some of your jobs... you are advertising other businesses that are doing the same as you. So the pence that you earn from Adsense, may mean you are missing out on a job as you have delivered a visitor to a competitor.

Try creating a page on Facebook and get fans to the page - very interactive, a great target for students and your business will turn up in profiles all over the place.

Also, PM me I have a directory...
