That's a huge subject with divided opinions. I get the impression that picture quality is very similar with lcd probably having the advantage in daylight and plasma having the advantage at night. The 'screen burn' problem which plasma had seems to be sorted.
I think the only thing that most people will agree on is that plasma uses a lot more power and is therefore more expensive to run.I'm Glad to be here... At my age I'm glad to be anywhere!!

Best picture quality IMHO (and cheapest)..standard cathode ray tube (CRT) TV! Not sure how old our 28" CRT tv is (was free and second hand) but it's still going strong (apart from the remote that is caput not that we touch it much as we have a seperate freeview box!). So yes opinions are very divided! If it comes down to budget and your choosing between LCD and plasma then LCD will be cheaper.

I spent some time in Waitrose (John Lewis) in Salisbury last week looking at nice new TVs.
The staff there were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
I was particularly interested interested in a couple of models, a Philips and Panasonic LCD and a Panasonic plasma.
All the sets on display were being fed from a Blu-Ray DVD, when I asked, the staff were more than happy to switch them over to SD terrestrial TV, one set even required them to find an aerial lead to do it. On HD DVD all of them were excellent - but, on SD they were not so hot ! My conclusion was to stick with my trusty JVC CRT set, which (still !) produces an excellent SD picture.
The story from the staff there was that there really is very little to chose between LCD and Plasma. Most of the "problems" have been sorted; screen-burn, fast motion blur, etc, etc. The plasma gave a slightly better picture when viewed from an angle. Plasma also seemed to be a bit more vivid in it's colours.
Plasma TVs have a finite life due to degradation of the gases; LCDs may (or may not !) lose pixels. The Panasonic Plasma & LCD were both the same price - £899, IIRC.
I think it probably down to personal choice. Unless you are desperate for the limited amount of HD that there is around stay with a CRT - or even buy a new one - there are some amazing bargains around on these at the moment.0 -
thanks guys....was only toying with the idea of saving up for one. there's nothing wrong with the tv i've already got, but i was just curious, cos i'm not very good when it comes to techie things!
