sat nav question

Have just bought a Peugeot 406 complete with sat nav built in (2002). However the discs are for 2002 and when put in machine it says that the discs are unreadable. Is this because they are damaged (have cleaned them like cd) or because I have to buy 2008 edition? I have never used sat nav before so please excuse my naivety. Thank you all.

The system in 406's were rubbish as they installed the thing in the boot. Which gets cold and damp, which overtime causes the laser to fork up.
We often used to take the thing to pieces and clean the laser and it'd work for a few weeks. Then be back to square one.0 -
Thanks very much, makes me feel much better that I don't have to do anything to car now! I can just relax. Any more tips about this car gratefully recieved.0

you could try and call the dealer for discs, but I suspect it would be cheaper and easier to buy a new sat nav (or take the original apart, if you know what you're doing of course)
I have an old honda with sat nav, and the dealer price for discs was around £200, simply uneconomical for a 5 year old carRemember the time he ate my goldfish? And you lied and said I never had goldfish. Then why did I have the bowl Bart? Why did I have the bowl?0 -
Think I might save up for a tom tom, meanwhile still keep using AA routemaster. Its very good (except it always seems to lose you in last 5 minutes) and has done me for years. Why change what isn't broken? Thanks to suggestions so far.0
