No all suppliers have an E7 tariff that gives more than 7 hours heating. Guess you'll need to phone around to get quotes.

All suppliers do offer Economy 7 but that isnt what the OP was asking, he was asking about Economy 10.

As far as I'm aware there are only 4 compaies that deal with Eco 10 meters, they are EDF(!), Southern Electric, Npower and E-on. You wont see Eco 10 rates on comparison sites because not all companies offer it in all areas so you will need to speak to the suppliers direct.

Plushchris, E7 is a generic term of 2-rate metering, hence my comment that all suppliers offer E7 but not all offer more than 7 hours heating.

I know what Economy 7 is, but its irrellevant as the OP was asking about Economy 10. Answering by saying all suppliers offer Eco 7 is telling him/her something they have already stated.

  • It may be worth having your meter changed for an E7 - to make an E7 meter worthwhile you need to use approx 30% of your electric in the off peak period, but for E10, it is usually over 40% of your electricity.

It can be the case that by switching companies to a contract rate (rather than your incumbent suppliers 'deemed' rate), you could still save money. Have a look at the prices as if you were on E7 and make an estimation of the cost difference.

Then, if you want to switch, have your current supplier switch you to an E7, and then you can go anywhere! I will jsut say though, that this won't work if you have a 2 MPAN meter - you supplier will be able to advise.

Hi keymaster, I've just reduced my unit rates by 10% by switching from E.on to Southern Electric, with an additional 6% direct debit saving. So it might be worth looking at them, if you decide Econ10 is still for you. I've under-floor heating and it needs a boost mid-afternoon so it suits me. My usage is over 55% of my units on the lower rates

Shopping around is only going to be through the telephone ( make sure you've got some 0800 numbers) and I'm afraid there's no capping options, although both companies were insistent they are "resisting pressure to put up prices".

As you've already been advised no comparison sites will help you , so no cashback benefits either.

So as long as the differential between the two companies stays the same I reckon I'll save at least £80 in a year, not much, but better than the proverbial poke in the eye!
