Why do utility companies have to make a profit anyway? Why can't the government force them to run at break-even point?
To my mind, heat and light are a basic human necessity.
It shouldn't be like this.0 -
its !!!!ing scandalous that they can keep the same profit margins and pass the increases right along , and they all follow like sheep , its disgracefull0

I've been busy looking at my utility arrangments this morning, and am trying to get my E.on prices capped through their protect09 campaign.
It seems that their website is down.
Is it just me, or is anyone out there having problems?
Thanks.
Not you. The site's been down for hours, or partially down. Try Scottish Power as an alternative capped rate - there are four deals there. Any capped deal beats a 25% rise in basic prices.Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. Thank you.0 -

Can anyone tell me if Southern Electric Fixed Discount 2010 is a capped tariff?
They don't seem to have good reviews on Money supermarket.
I am with E-On Online Energy Dual Fuel and I didn't realise how many tariffs they have either. Thanks0 -

It's a fixed DISCOUNT. That means the actual price is NOT fixed.
The discount is 2% off their normal standard rate. BUT if the standard rate goes up 40% over the next 6 months, you'll only have 2% less than the full whack to pay.
I'd get a proper fixed rate!0 -

No its fixed as it says. They have the best Customer Service Record in the business by far.
Prices for this tariff are fixed at 2% below Scottish & Southern's standard prices until 31st July 2010. There is a cancellation fee of £50 per fuel if customers switch away before 1st July 2009, falling to £25 per fuel if customers switch away between 1st July 2009 and 31st July 2010.0
