Cheap Dog food and moulting?AMAZING moulting

We feed our dog on a good quality dog food (dry) that can only be bought from vets.
While we were away for 2 weeks our relatives looked after him (he's on obesity food).
They do love giving him treats,and at some point they seemed to think his dog food was running low and gave him somehing from Asda.When we picked him up he was just moulting like nothing on earth-the hair was just falling off him in a sheet-i have never known anything like it.,don't know exactly what but it may have been own brand.Now I am all for cheap brands,generally,but could it have been the change to the cheap stuff plus fatty snacks that caused this?
For all i know they may only have been giving him the other food for about 4 days?
After beingback home he very quickly reverted to normal.

perhaps he was loosing his hair due to stress of you being away.
when we had a dog we fed her chappie as recommended by the vets, yes its cheaper but better for them than many expensive brands, also if you have a look its actually made by pedigree chum
