Cheapest place to get a Camera Repair?

Options
Hello,
Don't know if this is the right forum so feel free to move it if needed.
I spent the day out with our children yesterday and took our very expensive Canon EOS 400D Camera out with us as it provides fantastic quality shots.
However, when we came home (and I have no idea what happened to it), the digital lcd screen looks smashed when you turn it on, but there is no visible crack to it.
I bought this camera second hand from a camera shop in Halifax town centre but get the feeling they won't be the cheapest to take it to be repaired.
Does anybody know of anywhere that would be reasonable? I can tell OH is incredibly miffed with me and I want to get this done as fast as possible.
Please help

LCD screens go 'black and ink stained' after exposure to high temps, like yesterday. It might be ok today! You say "looks smashed" is it or not?. There is a place in Vauxhall, London but thats a long way from you. Try Canon web site/forums

Why not take the camera to the local Halifax camera shop and ask them for a quote? Increasingly, digital cameras are considered to be disposable, although I understand that your EOS 400D may fall outside that category. You may find that the cost of repair is such that it may be more cost-effective to buy a new one.

Alternatively, could your camera be covered by your home contents insurance, presuming you have some? That way you would only have to pay the excess on the repair/replacement.
