30" Widescreen LCD TV £499.99

I was looking at the Crown 32" lcd tv at Woolworths for £599.99 (they also do a 20" at £279.99) which looked a good buy but after doing a search on Google couldn't find any info on it. Then I came across this one at Dabs for £505.99 delivered. According to the reviews it is the German made Conrac as detailed on AV Shopper but is over £100 cheaper at Dabs. There is quite a bit of info on it and it looks a better deal. You can even buy now and pay 9 months later, interest free.

HD ready televisions come at a price and not everyone wants one or understands the complexity of high definition technology (me included) so for those technophobes who don’t want to pay a few hundred pounds more for a HD ready tv but want something more streamlined and affordable then this looks like a good buy.

Heres a top tip when looking for a LCD tv also search for PC Monitors/TV as they usually have 3yr warranty and cheaper than just the TV version

Or buy it from John Lewis where all their TVs come with a free 5 year warranty.

The trouble with looking for an HDTV now is that unless you are going to get HD sky or HD cable then you wont need an HDTV until analouge switch off and even then no one really knows if freeview is going to go HD. I would suggest that it would be better to wait until sky launch their service in 2006 to see what happens to the TV market.

As it is cheap, I don't see much of an issue with HD compatibility as long as people are aware that it doesn't support it.

More importantly, this TV (along with a lot of 30" LCD TVs) is 15:9 rather than proper widescreen which is 16:9 so the proportions of the picture are wrong..

    Thanks

fair point, unless u want to pay sky extra for its hdtv transmissions next year + the extra cost of hd compatible tv u can quite happily carry on with a normal tv for years(normal digital tv is hardly a poor picture is it;) )

How abouts this one from Currys

with the correct widescreen proportions at £598 including delivery, comes to £540 using voucher codes from pricedash.com Better to pay the extra £30 and get a widescreen. Also definately agree about HD, unless your planning on paying sky for the service you can use this TV for a good 5 years with no problems by which time HD tv's will be half price.
  • Rajastyle - is there definitely a 10% off tvs code at pricedash.com? I could only see 5% ones for general purchases, and 10% for fridges etc?

(would really help as I'm looking at a big spend!!) :)
