Printer problem

Have had an Epson R300 for some time now. Have only just bothered connecting it up to my PC as I have been running it through it's bluetooth adaptor beforehand. When I try printing an MS WORD document I keep on getting "communication error". Have tried a test print and tested in Notepad and still getting same error. Looked up on internet what might be causing this and I was lead down the bios route. Don't think it's anything to do with that ? The PC has an old 1.1 USB port and the printer runs off USB2, still shouldn't be a problem.

Also noticed that when looking at the printer properties through the PC it shows that the ink cartridges are shown as "empty" but they're not and the Printer display screen itself shows the cartridges as being "full". Even bought a reset chip gadget to reset the ink cartridges just to make sure but they still show up as "empty" in the print properties on the PC.

Any help much appreciated as I feel like just throwing the lot out now...!l

Some USB2 items dont like running off USB1.1 ports,but...

Have you looked in the printer settings to see if its set to use the USB port ?

Go in to control panel, double clickthe printers icon, right click on the printer you want and look through the properties option to see which port its on and change if neccesary. It sounds like its still trying to use a bluetooth connection.

    Thanks CIS!

It was the printer port - was set to LPT1.... thought I changed that to USB when I set it up. Feel a bit silly now, a schoolboy error!

    Many thanks
