polarity advice needed when using an adaptor

i have just brought this item off ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170238040117
and it works fine but there is a socket for an dc adaptor on the side which i didnt get with the hub.. i have a mulit volt adaptor that would work with it but i think you need to know whether to put the tip on + or - and i have not got a clue which way to put it.. there is no instructions
can anyone help please

no nothing..it just came as it was ..nothing with it and the adaptor instructions just state to check the equipments instructions...

If I had to gamble on that, I'd choose positive tip, as almost every electrical appliance I've ever seen that has a DC power adaptor was that way round.
If that's wrong, there's a fair chance that it's reverse polarity protected, and if not, you're only down £4.50!0
