I'm a God-father! I'm quite chuffed and excited.
Now, I'm going to see the parents and him tomorrow and fancy taking a present along. I'm wondering what a 7 week old baby would like? Fluffy, noisy toy things?

7 week old baby's don't really like anything bar food and sleep!

You could get a baby outfit, if you do though get a 3-6 month one as they'll probably already have been given loads of 0-3 outfits.
Personally I'd save getting any toys until the baby's big enough to be able to hold and interact with them.0 -
Why not buy him a keepsake.
Im sure mum and dad would have been given lots of fluffy and noisy stuff!!
Congratulations on becoming a god father :beer:I heart The Capital

We are becoming godparents on Sunday too

We have bought a bottle of port that will mature around his 18th birthday. It cost about £45 from our local specialist wine merchant - not cheap, but as we were asked to be godparents we wanted to spend a little more. We figure if he doesn't fancy drinking it when he's older, he can sell it on. We didn't know what else to buy as he already had so much!I like you. I shall kill you last.0 -

HI Tom,
Congratulations on becoming a godfather.
Please don;t take offene to this but here is a plea from a mother to a 13 month old little boy. My DS was christened (sp) in October when he was 6 months old, my DP and I spent months agonising over who to have as god parents and thought that we had made really wonderful choices.
His 2 godmothers haven;t seen him since the christening and his godfather has only seen him twice ( yes I know I have this the wrong way round for a boy!!)
So now he just has 2 devestated (sp) parents and I have 2 less close friends. Luckly my DS will never really know about it as he is too young.
So please please take you role seriously.
In regards to the present I have been trying to think of the things I was given for my son and what he really likes. I think his total favourite is a blue elephant which when you spin its tummy sings a song about going to sleep. This lives in his cot and when the batteries die my life isn;t worth living as he can not sleep without it!!!

If you can find a back copy of a newspaper on the day the baby was born, it would be a great gift to give. The Times maybe?
I would suggest taking along a gift of some kind, everyone visiting a baby tends to, and especially as you are playing such an important role in the baby's life. Flowers definitely for mum.
There are so many little things for baby that make life easier for all. A baby mozart cd or dvd (the Einstein make is good) they are calming and always useful for my babies.
I link to other useful things we have used in the past for our babies. They probably haven't got to the stage yet of thinking of buying them, but they have all been very useful to us.
