Do I need to inform old provider when switching?
I'm switching to Scottish Power from Southern Electric. I have received letters from both. Southern Electric's letter states:
Do I really need to call them? When I last switched provider (from BG) a few years ago, I remember having to call BG and they insisted that I should stay with them and it was a struggle to get them to accept. But I always wondered what would have happened if I never called them.
I don't see why I have to call the old provider as they already know that I'm leaving and they have all my details. I don't fancy listening to another retention speech.
Thanks
Sorry you're leaving - we'd love you to stay.
We've heard that you want to switch to another energy supplier and we're really disappointed by the news. However, we do want the process to go as smoothly as possible for you so please call us and we'll get things moving.
Alternatively, you could choose to stay with us...
...All you need to do is call us within the next 7 days and we'll take care of the rest.

no you don't have to call them, the reason they send you those letters is so they can attempt to retain you, Scottish Power will inform them of the switch0 -
Excellent. Thank you
