I little confused - but thats easily done! - I'm assuming that by the fact you've got a mantle piece you are going to keep the hearth, but not keep it as an active fireplace??
If you are not then you can put a board in the chimney to prevent drafts (you need to keep an airvent in it though).0 -
I want to keep it as an open fireplace, but need some advice now the I have taken it back to the plaster . It was as cotswold stone fireplace 70's style and took up lot of room in the sitting room.
I removed the stone and hearth all very old and dated.
What should I do now? I want to still use it as an open fireplace do I need some kind of fire board? to put behind any tiling?
Pleae help if you can . Much appreciated.SPC £500 well will try very hard.

I'd get the chimney swept 1st, a good sweep will be able to give you some advice on the condition of the chimney and if any work is needed to the flue.
There are lots of useful info sheets here on many solid fuel related questions, including opening a fireplace.
