Flaming doctors surgeries

I got to get this off my chest.

Today I had an appointment to see the nurse for a check-up as my asthma is getting worse of recent months. The appointment was at 1 pm. I waited there until 1.25pm and couldn't wait any longer as I had a dentist appointment just across the road at 1.30pm. I noticed when I went to surgery the nurse was t the reception. At 1.05 two patients went into her room as they were called on the LED thing.

I had to leave at 1.25 because I couldn't wait any longer, I popped to reception and told them that I had a dentist appointment and they booked me in on 21st November I told them that my asthma is bad and that I need more medication, she said no problem pop back and we do a prescription. But I said that I need a check-up as that was what I was told early October and also a flue jab. Still nearest appointment is 21st Nov despite my health problems.

Ironically having gone to dentists I need a filling and he said he doest have time today rearrange and appointment at the reception, which was next week.

I am dissapointment that because they running late that I knwo get penalised veen though I waited 25 mins and was only gone at most 10 minutes. They even told me that one person hadnt turned up and they were still running late.

I know what you mean. I called Dr's at 8.30am last Thu as 6 mth old had high temp. Was given 9.20am appt. I arrived at 9.15am. Was kept waiting 'til 9.55am. No apology. Didn't strip off baby, just said lots of diarrhoea going around, her's prescription for diaralyte. Hopeless. Have spent Thu evening and Sun morning on phone to NHS direct who were much better. Saw out of hours GP yeterday who was great. Shame she's not our usual GP.

My GP's surgery has just cancelled my appointment for this afternoon with no option for me to see anyone today, just to ring back in an hour and book another one for goodness only knows when. I was supposed to be getting test results and wanted to discuss some important things with her and had psyched myself up for that. She only works part time as well so that makes it even worse.

I rang in to complain as I thought they should have fit me in earlier due to them being late. Luckily they got back to me and arranged for an appointment at 5.20, thankfully. I don't mind waiting a bit a few days or so but it was unfair originally to have it set almost a month later. Anyhow good news, I feel guilty now of complaining sometimes the only way to get what you wanted is to complain I try to be reasonably and accept appointments over run, on this occasion I had another appointment and in this town getting a dentist is like gold dust. Cheers, hope you get sorted Bossyboots

I now have to wait a week for an appointment unless I want to see another doctor. Ordinarily that would be fine but this doctor has been treating me for several months now and there are some things I would prefer to be discussing with a female, particularly as her speciality is female health.

What has got me even more annoyed is that they are supposed to be sending my medical records to my solicitors. I asked them whether this had been done and they told me it had and the date. I specifically asked if that was the date the records went out, not any other correspondence and she said yes. I now find out that wasn't true. This is the second time I have been lied to by the staff at the practice. I wanted to complain the first time but thought it might affect my treatment but I am not sure whether I can let this second one go. On both occasions they have/are causing a delay in me getting other medical attention.
  • I was flabbergasted today. Had an appointment for 9:50am. I was seen at 9:45am! Honestly, I nearly passed out when my name was called._pale_

Mind you I know it was only a one off.

I won't mention the 6 month hospital waiting list i'm one to have a cyst removed from my inner eyelid!

I have to say that my surgery is great, particularly where my son is concerned. I have never failed to get an appointment within a few hours of calling with him (once too short notice to get to the surgery with him!) even though the appointments are a bit behind sometimes. Last time I took him two doctors were needed to diagnose him, and clearly held up other appointments. If this is why they are behind I really don't mind, but then I must say that being (very ;) ) part time now I generally have the time for this not to be too much of an inconvenience.
However, the way that the appointment systems are set up is almost impossible if you work full time. Here you have to make an appointment generally that day, apart from a few pre-bookables. Remember Tony Blair on Question Time not knowing that you largely couldn't pre-book so the surgeries meet the targets of seeing everyone within three days? I used to have to tell work that I was going to attempt to make an appointment and wing it from there. I am sure that doctors are aware of how patients gear themselves up to receive test results and I think these should not be delayed at all, or if they are rescheduled within 48hrs. I am sure that many doctors would rather not work this way, as in my experience, the more wound up you are, the less you take in and the longer it takes to sort out any potential problems.

Bossyboots, I hope that you get it sorted as soon as possible.

I phoned my docs to try and get an appointment for any morning this week with my doctor. I was told she is fully booked up this week. I asked if I could make one for next Mon or Tues morning to be told 'we cant book Mondays appointment until tomorrow and we cant book next Tuesdays appointment until Wednesday.' Still with me? I was told there are appointments available for next Mon at 8.30 am but I definately couldn't book it until 8am tomorrow morning. Oh, and she said I should ring first thing 'cos they go really quickly!!! I then asked her if she'd ever tried ringing the surgery at 8am on her day off and had ever got through. She wasn't impressed.

I have to :rotfl: or I might get
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

Try to get friendly with them and keep stating that you know that it is not their fault and how difficult it must be for them.

It is surprising how treating people as people can help.

( even they cannot do this for you due to pressure)

    Sorry Quackers

I am sure that you do , what I meant was that if you are able to pop down sometimes when things are not urgent and get them to see you as a person , then that can help.
