In Fenwick's, they had this laptop, but in black with Linux for £189, and with XP for £249. XP is more expensive(obviously), and it reduces the memory capicity.

i think i'm better off trying to get the hand of linux tbh then.

theres like £100 difference between the 4gb and the 4gb surf - for what i want i'll probably just get the 4gb.

c_ronaldo, thanks for the link, really helpful.

i'm going to check out scan, aria and ebuyer now (thanks weegie.geek!)

I couldnt get OH's 3usb dongle to recognise with ubuntu in my laptop , I had to install windows . Are you in halls? They often have internet in with the rent , DS did last term, it was wireless only though. I think eeepc does have wireless anyway.
If you search on youtube for eeepc, you will find lots of video reviews of that computer, sone linux, some windows

it does take a bit of fudging to get the USB 3g dongle to work in Ubuntu but the Eee pc comes with a difrent version called xandros. it's more likely to support the dongle.

There is loads of forums for Linux and the Eee pc so don't worry if you get stuck! loads of help out there!!
