GPRS compact flash card

Options
Hi, i just bought the hp ipaq 214 pda and want a gprs compact flash card for it. Im looking at the enforca gsm 110-01 GSM/Gprs Compact flash card but i dont know if it is compatible with window mobile 6. Does anyone have any ideas if it is or an even better gprs compact flash card that would be better suited.

Thank you

Apologies in advance as this doesn't answer your question but...

Do you know for sure that GPRS is going to be any use to you? Reason I ask is that I tried it a couple of years ago (on a laptop, not a PDA) and thought that the service was appalling. Speeds were slower than normal dial-up, and reception was patchy.

It seems that it's pretty much a dead technology today, and that the 3g networks are the way to go. Having said that, I don't know if anyone does a 3g CF adapter...

A GPRS CF card would let you connect directly to the net, using a sim card inserted into the CF card, no need to use your phone at all.

If you carry a phone that has GPRS and can be used as a modem then you can (assuming you can get connectivity between the pda and your phone - the pda hasWi-Fi and BT, time to check your phone) skip the CF card and use the phone as a modem.

Edit: it should also be mentioned that depending on your network/tariff they might REALLY restrict what you can access on the net.

GPRS also is pretty slow. Fine for emails, slowish for websites. If you can use some sort of UMTS type connection it'd be a lot more pleasant.

My phone is samsung soul, i checked its network mode and it has gsm 900/1800, Gsm 1900 and UMTS, since you say that UMTS is better and i dont need a Cf card, how do i connect my pda to my umts network on my phone.

Also im on vodaphone pay as you go, dont know the rules, ill ask later.

    Your help is much appreciated.

No idea about voda's payg. I'm with T-Mob after being with O2 for the best part of 10 years, but O2's PAYG net access is heavily restricted. It's web and nothing else, and I need to be able to use remote desktop and some other things, so O2's service was useless to me. They have a decent bolt-on as well, that'd have been useful to me. The Tmob "bolt-on" that would've been useful to me is only available for contract customers, but they do have a flat rate £1 a day cap. Use less than £1 and it costs you however much you use. Spend more than £1 and it stops charging. Infuriating if you need to log on at 23:50 mind you. :)

I'm unaware of what features your phone has, but on the phone side it'll be the same procedure for setting it up to use as a modem with a PC, so if you have a google for that it'll help a lot.

Ok my phone does not have gprs but it is quadband and has hsdpa and apparently using the phone as a modem is fine but now i need a mini usb adapter. I dont know how to describe it. Basically i need a female usb hub with a standard male jack and it has to be a hub and not a cable that is a to b. Anyone know where i can get one?

Both the PDA and the phone have bluetooth. Why not use that to connect them?

Apparently that is useless for using samsung u900 as a modem since it turns off bluetooth when it in modem mode however if i connect them using a wire that will allow me to use hspda connection. Although wires suck, i would get a fast connection. Only problem is the pda uses mini usb (-.-) so i need a conveter.

    Ow, that sucks.

Is there hacked firmware that stops it turning off BT in modem mode?

So both the phone and the PDA use mini usb?

I have a normal usb to mini usb converter, so I know they exist.

One of these you need? I can't say 100% for sure that the phone and the PDA will work together like that though. It sounds like things are pretty locked down on your phone.

A lot of networks do that to stop you from doing exactly what you're trying to do, unfortunately.

Only my pda uses mini usb and my phone uses a special wire that has a usb connector. So i would connect them by using PDA>mini adapter>usb> to phone. I think this is the one i need http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=154871. If this adapter works the only problem left if whether studio PC studio 3.1 is compatible with window mobile 6. If it does it should be a breeze.

Also vodafone dont have a problem with phone > pda, it will just use more mb

Internet connection anytime/anywaywhere is not overly important because i spend most of my time at university which has free wifi but if im on the train or something i would like to have the option, if you know what i mean.
