in Credit cards
I booked some Hotel accommodation with the above company and I used my Nationwide credit card to pay for the on line transaction. The total cost was £170. However last week they ceased trading and when I rang up Nationwide they said I couldn't claim the money back and to try and claim on my Holiday insurance. I rang them up and they too said I couldn't claim. I have now re booked the accommodation at an extra cost. I always thought that my contract was with the Visa company and they should pay if I don't receive goods/services. Can anyone please tell me if I should take the matter further or are Nationwide correct. Thanks

This is very interesting. I also thought that under the Consumer Credit act, that CC companies are responsible to re-imburse consumers when goods/ services are not delivered accroding to contractual terms. What do others think?0

Nationwide did say that if it was goods that I bought I could have claimed but because it was a service I cant.0

See my post in Faulty goods on credit cards question? thread:... if you've paid in advance for a product or service you don't receive – because the company's gone bust, for example...
If your card issuer won't accept your claim, don't give up. The letters we've received from our members show that, on occasions, card issuers are initially obstinate and refuse to accept their liability under Section 75. But perseverance may well pay off.0 -

We booked a hotel with lastminute.com and paid by credit card then when we turned up the hotel did not have a booking and was full.
We claimed off the credit card company and they gave us our money back. They said any transaction over £100 was covered.(Different credit card mind you)travelover0 -
Thanks, I will get a letter in the post tonight. I only found out that the company ceased trading when another company emailed me asking if I wanted to re book with them. I wonder if they paid travelextra.com for the information. Travelextra.com advertised on budget airline websites like bmibaby and Ryanair. They didn't belong to ABTA so customers had no protection. I should have checked0

I have just rang Nationwide up again armed with all the new info. I spoke to a very nice lady and without hesitation she said she would send me a form to fill in and there shouldn't be a problem! Its probably down to who you get on the phone.0

Hope you get it sorted out - several of my friends worked for travelextras so lost there jobs last week. A really sad situtation for all the staff and the clients.
I was always under the impression you were covered by your credit card company - will check if I buy anything in the future.
