Hi everyone
I keep getting (not responding) in both Word and AoL. It takes ages to sort itself out. Is there anything I can do or look for on my machine to avoid this?
Thanks

Open up Task Manager and check to see whether you have any processes running that are using a lot of memory. Also, what are you doing on Word when you get the 'Not Responding' message?0

Did you try to restaure your computer to a time before your problems started?
That's the first thing I try when I have problems with programs not functioning properly, and 9 times out of 1o it solve the problem.0 -
Hi - thanks to both of you for quick response. Spark can you remind me how to do the 'reset to previous time'.I have done it once before but can't remember.
Have checked Task Manager when this happens and there isn't anything else running. I do sometimes get about 20 Task Managers coming up at once and have to close them all down though!
When it happened in Word, I was trying to create a form but that shouldn't make a difference should it?0 -

There you go. Though you shouldn't be getting 20 Task manager's coming up unless you're pressing the buttons a whole lot of times.0 -
You may want to look into getting rid of AOL's software. I personally wouldn't put anything from my ISP on my computer. Despite inferences, you don't need the ISP's software to connect to them, even AOL which is notorious for it's use of proprietary standards etc.

(it's also a good consideration for "future proofing" if you decide to change ISP, I don't have a single setting or mention on my PC at all of my ISP)"She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Thanks for all your help. I'm too scared to take off the AoL software though - as all my email addresses are there and I use some of their storage things so I guess I would lose all this. I'm a real novice so prefer to stick with what I know for the moment.
Thanks again0
