Help regarding Sky+

Options
Bear with me, I have very little knowledge on this hence my post!

We've recently moved home and we're in a block of flats with a communal dish.

We have a sky+ box from our old flat but only one cable coming in and we've been told we won't be able to have a second cable run in.

It's been mentioned about the possibility of some kind of splitter? I realise we can't have full sky+ facilities but would like to be able to record programmes whilst we're out etc but from the little I do understand about it the box won't switch the channel over to record it so EG. Recording 1 programme on say sky one @ 7pm and something else on living @ 10pm won't work with one input? Is there a gadget we can use to get around this? For as little cost as possible.

TIA

Fairly certain that will not work, 2 inputs are required from the dish for the recording facility to function.

The problem here is that it's likely you only have access to one LNB (the receiver that sits in the dish outside).

If you put a splitter in, both tuners in the Sky box will try to "drive" a single LNB and it just doesn't work properly (I know - I tried it!).

In which case, it's probably best going back to a normal Sky box and buying a VCR?
